During our stay at Anthony’s Key Resort (AKR) my sister and I took a day trip to Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge on the mainland. Our flight left Roatan at 7:00 AM. Two young men from the tour company picked us up at the airport in La Ceiba, and we rode in their truck for about twenty minutes to La Union. We took an old banana train owned by Standard Fruit Company to the river, which was a unique experience, and allowed us to enjoy the scenery along the way. The tour company provided us lunch on the train, and it was one of the best tasting meals I’ve had. Continue reading

Cara a Cara, or face to face, is the name of the dive site where we encountered the Caribbean Reef Sharks. The shark dive is one of the extra dives we added to our adventure at Anthony’s Key Resort (AKR) in Roatan, and well worth it. The site is located around the other side of the island from AKR, so it was a short boat ride to get there. Continue reading
