I recently spent the weekend at Cannon Beach, Oregon and one of best parts of the trip was all of the food we enjoyed. One of our first meals was at Morris’ Fireside Restaurant, the service was a little slow since it was a very busy weekend with all of the people flooding to the coast for the warm weather, but that was understandable. The building is beautiful and the food was great. I had the tuna sandwich and french fries and they were both very good, I loved the large cut fries.
Dinner our first night was at the Lumberyard Rotisserie and Grill and unfortunately, with all of my crazy picture taking all day long, my phone battery was dead. We had eaten so well earlier, I was going to have a smaller dinner. I decided on the Tillamook Mac & Cheese and the Lumberyard Clam Chowder, both were very delicious. Then we all split the S’mores dessert. The desserts aren’t on the menu, the waiter brings a tray of choices to your table. This is a good selling point because if you see the dessert in front of you, it makes you want them more than just reading the description on the menu.

The S’mores dessert is served in a cast iron skillet, with the graham crackers and chocolate at the bottom and the marshmallows on the top, then heated so the marshmallows are golden brown on the top, then drizzled with more chocolate. This is fun to eat and very tasty! Once our dessert arrived, someone from the next table came over and joked that he was going to join us. I’m sure they ordered the same thing later.
Dinner our second night was at the Wayfarer which provides you with a great view of Haystack Rock. Very nice dining experience. I had the French Onion Soup which was very good and my aunts both had the Pinot Noir Salmon, which looked amazing.
All good trips come to an end eventually. Before we made our way back to Portland, we made a short detour to Wheeler to visit a friend for lunch at the Tsunami Bar & Grill on the Nehalem River. I had the Fish & Chips and you get your choice between three or six pieces and Cod, Salmon or Halibut. I can’t remember ever being at a restaurant where you had your choice of fish for fish & chips, the breading was perfect.
My aunt’s friend wanted to have some calamari on a salad, which wasn’t really on the menu and the waitress said “why not?!” So my aunt had the same thing and they both loved them. My other aunt had the Asian Chicken Salad. The portions were huge and our waitress was very friendly, I think her name was Lindy. The service was very good and my water glass never got more than two inches below the rim before it was refilled. If you want a short drive to get away from the crowds of Cannon Beach, this is the perfect quick get away. Great food, fabulous service and beautiful view!
I had a great visit with my family and and even better time enjoying so much fantastic food along the way. If you go to Cannon Beach, you should definitely try some of these restaurants.
