During my stay at Anthony’s Key Resort (AKR) I went on their dolphin dive. The dive master took two of the male dolphins from AKR out into the open ocean. Our boat of divers and the dive master went down onto the sandy bottom for a chance to interact with the dolphins in their own environment. We weren’t as swift and graceful as them with all of our scuba gear on, but they didn’t seem to mind. They swam near us, in between us and all around us. It was fun watching them play with sea grass and having fun being with us. They are very social and seemed to love the time they spent with us humans.
We moved to a couple of different areas in the ocean in hopes that some wild dolphins would join us, but no such luck on this dive. That was OK with all of us because we were having a blast, and so were the dolphins.
As the divers got low on their tanks, we surfaced and boarded the boat. When we were all back on the boat, we headed back to AKR and the dolphins were jumping beside the boat. If you are taking a vacation to AKR or stopping in Roatan for a cruise ship stop, I would highly recommend the dolphin dive. Very fun time!
