When traveling, I have a tendency to splurge from time to time. I can save on some things so I am able to indulge when I want to, and depending on my mood, I can just keep on splurging! I’m definitely not a budget traveler. Traveling is exhausting and if I want a nice hotel room so I can relax after a long day, I’m going to get it!
Last June, my sister, two aunts and I went to Castello di Amorosa winery and enjoyed the Royal Food and Wine Pairing hosted by their Sommelier Mary Davidek. Mary has been their Sommelier since 2008 and she is extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. The Royal Food and Wine Pairing includes an informative tour of the winery which stops at the Royal Apartment for your wine and food sampling. Mary pairs freshly prepared foods that go well with each wine.
Don’t be fooled by the amount of wine in the glasses or food on the plates. There is plenty of everything, and if you don’t prefer a wine, there is a carafe to dump it in. Let’s just say it’s a good thing I wasn’t driving! The food was very delicious and had amazing flavors, which all paired perfectly with the wines she was serving.
These are some photos of our tour before the wine tasting. I have been to Castello di Amorosa before and just love it. I don’t know about you, but it is a serious fantasy of mine to be able to live in a castle.
Dario Sattui loved the Italian region of Tuscany and wanted his new winery to resemble the castles of this region from the 13th century. I think he succeeded in completing his vision, and Castello di Amorosa should not be missed when visiting the Napa Valley in California. It will be a highlight of your trip. Of course, his other winery, V. Sattui is our favorite and we stop every time we are in Napa.
After the Royal Food and Wine Pairing, you are taking to the tasting room where you can sample more wines and shop at the gift store, which I highly recommend. I have a wine container, wine cork container, coaster, refrigerator magnet, etc. I also signed up for the wine club, which is wonderful! Each quarter I look forward to three wines coming to my door, and they do not disappoint.
